Houston Pain Treatment Services & Pain
Management
|
We specialize in minimally invasive,
effective outpatient procedures.
Our general treatment policy: A treatment must be
shown to be effective in controlled clinical trials AND
better than other existing treatments for a particular
condition AND safe to the patient to be included in our
standard treatment options.
We emphasize an
individualized
approach to pain care, not the "one fits all" concepts
(such as "laser", "non-surgical decompression", etc.).
Although these therapies are also considered from time to
time, we offer individualized treatments because the role
of the pain generators vary greatly from person to person.
We constantly research new pain treatment technologies. |

Our fully equipped fluoroscopy
suite is maintained
on
site for the patient’s convenience. Most procedures are
out-patient and last only 10-20 minutes. Heart rate and
rhythm, respiratory rate, blood pressure, oxygen saturation,
and EKG are monitored throughout some of the procedures. The
procedures are fully discussed with the patient by Dr.
Pappolla in advance, including potential outcomes, benefits,
risks and alternative modalities for treatment. The patient
always holds the final authority in deciding which treatment
to pursue after being fully educated in the various modalities
available. Ample time for discussion is always a high priority
in our clinics.
For those
treatments requiring injections, the ultimate care is taken to
ensure extreme accuracy and safety by using Fluoroscopic
guidance (x-ray image visualization). This will ensure
accurate needle placement and minimize potential
complications. The appropriate flow of dye is determined
before any medication is injected. This method is far superior
to blind injections.
