What is a PAIN SPECIALIST?

All doctors and some health professionals are involved in treating pain but some have no formal training in pain management. A pain specialist often has several specialties, such as Anesthesiology, Neurology, or Physical Medecine and additional formal training specifically in pain management.

A comprehensive treatment plan for treating pain may include: minimally invasive outpatient procedures (aimed at the primary source of the pain and promote healing), medications, counseling, exercise programs, physical therapy, massage and other modalities.

Houston Pain Management

Pain management is a sub-specialty of medicine dealing with the evaluation and treatment of people with acute or chronic pain. Acute pain usually follows injury or surgery and resolves as the body heals itself. Chronic pain persists after healing has taken place. Cancer and certain degenerative diseases such as arthritis can also cause chronic pain.
